Actor-politician Vijay statement: Tamil actor-cum-politican Vijay on Monday stormed into the electoral battlefield, filing his nomination from Perambur constituency. On the occasion, he urged the voters to back his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections 2026. He positioned himself as a people’s candidate and declared that he had renounced a life of comfort to serve the commoners, and promised honesty in his political journey.
Addressing a massive gathering from an open-top campaign vehicle, the TVK chief struck an emotional chord. He said, “I have given up my life of riches to repay the love you have shown me. I will never lie or deceive you.” His remark drew loud cheers and whistles from his supporters.
Vijay launches attack on ruling DMK govt
Thereafter, Vijay launched a scathing attack on Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), the ruling party in Tamil Nadu. He branded it an ‘anti-people’ force responsible for the state’s current challenges. Furthermore, he accused Tamil Nadu Chief Minister (CM) MK Stalin of presiding over a regime that had failed to ensure safety, stability and employment.
He then urged voters to choose between what he described as an indifferent government and leadership rooted in compassion. Elaborating on the same, he said, “This is not just an election; it is a decision for the next generation,” calling for a ‘whistle revolution’ in the state, a reference to his party’s election symbol. During this, he also alleged that monetary inducements could play a role in the polls, appealing to the citizens to resist such tactics. He said, “Take what is given, but vote with your conscience.”

Notably, the Tamil film industry’s Thalapathy is slated to contest from two constituencies, Perambur and Trichy East, where he faces strong competition from sitting DMK legislators. Tamil Nadu will go to polls across all 234 constituencies on April 23, 2026, and counting has been scheduled for May 4.
Vijay promised a drug-free and self-reliant Tamil Nadu. He pledged timely conduct of government exams and unveiled welfare measures aimed at the youth, including a financial aid of Rs 4,000 per month for graduates and Rs 2,000 per month for diploma holders.
