PM Modi Lpg: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, March 12, urged people to avoid rumors about the availability of LPG. He stated that some elements are attempting to create an atmosphere of fear and spread rumors, while the government is continuously taking steps to manage the impact of the global energy crisis. Amid growing concerns about LPG, the Prime Minister stated that the global crisis caused by war has affected many countries around the world, and India is no exception. However, he assured that the government is continuously making efforts at various levels to minimize its impact on the common people.

The Prime Minister has also asked the State Governments to closely monitor the situation and take strict action against black marketing and rumour mongers.

Prime Minister’s address 

The Prime Minister stated that he had recently discussed this issue with several world leaders and that efforts were underway to address challenges related to the energy supply chain. He added that this time too, we will make every effort to minimize the impact of the war on the lives of our farmers and citizens. He said that it is crucial to stop rumors and monitor the market for essential commodities like LPG.

Referring to India’s preparedness, the Prime Minister said that the country has significantly strengthened its energy security over the past few years. He explained that before 2014, India had virtually no strategic petroleum reserves, whereas today the country has the capacity to store over 5 million tons of crude oil and plans to expand this further.

The Prime Minister said that India’s refining capacity has increased by more than 40 million tonnes annually in the last decade, making the country one of the major refining hubs of the world.

Emphasizing the need for energy self-sufficiency, he said the government has promoted ethanol blending and biofuels to reduce dependence on imported petroleum. According to him, before 2014, ethanol blending in petrol was approximately 1-1.5%, which has now increased to nearly 20%. The Prime Minister said that increasing ethanol blending has saved India approximately 180 million barrels of additional crude oil imports over the last 11 years. Currently, this reduces oil imports by approximately 45 million barrels each year, saving the country approximately Rs 1.5 lakh crore.
