Internet Bhakti Trend: Faith or Hypocrisy?
Internet Bhakti: Nowadays, the trend of social media is in full swing. Every person keeps adopting new tactics on social media to gain fame and in this race for fame, today’s youth are making and uploading internet devotional reels and are trying to tell and show that the flag of devotion and faith is in their hands. In the name of faith, everyone is making reels of whatever they want. This is not faith; it is a race for cheap popularity, in which devotee influencers are appearing on the internet in the name of content creation. Our religion gives us a lot of freedom, but that does not mean that anyone should make vulgar reels in the name of devotion. Show the world how we have made a mockery of ourselves in the name of tradition and customs.
Rise of Internet Bhakti on Social Media
When Sawan came, in the name of Kanwar Yatra, these so called devotional influencers made fun of Kanwar. Bringing Kanwar is a very sacred act and there are some strict rules which Kanwariyas have to follow but in the race to make reels, keeping all the rules aside, some are carrying the Kanwar of politicians and some are carrying the Kanwar of their girlfriends. To make reels, Kanwar is being carried
for show, obscene dance is being performed, the youth of new India are indulging in hooliganism, drug abuse in the name of Kanwar and Shiva devotion and for the whole month, there is only fun and frolic in the name of Kanwar.
When Janmashtami came, Laddu Gopal was being turned into a toy in the name of Lord Krishna, new stories of Madhav were being made, someone was taking Krishna to a beauty parlor, someone went to school and brought Krishna’s marksheet, the Krishna who gave the world the knowledge of Bhagavad Gita was being insulted completely.
A new trend has started in the country, people have turned pilgrimage into tourism, vulgar reels are being made and obscene dances are being performed at places like Kedarnath, Mahakal, Rishikesh, Kumbh etc. These places have their own sanctity but by ignoring all the limits, they have also been made tourist spots.
Not only Hindu creators, some Muslim creators also give the knowledge in the name of religion that girls are harassed because they do not wear burqa, while some Christian creators are making reels on Punjabi Christian songs and nowadays Bhojpuri Christian songs, reels are being made by changing Gayatri Mantra to Jesus Gayatri Mantra.
This article isn’t meant to question any religion it’s meant to expose the so-called devotional influencers who, posing as fake devotees on social media, are using false pretenses to increase their following in the name of faith and devotion. Religion isn’t trendy content, it’s the foundation of our existence.
