T20 WC 2026: Gautam Gambhir responds warmly to Dhoni’s ‘Smile Looks Great on You’ post-victory

T20 WC 2026: India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir responded warmly to the cricket team’s former captain MS Dhoni, after the latter complimented his smile in an Instagram post, following the team’s victory at the T20 World Cup 2026. Notably, India scripted history in the tournament, trouncing New Zealand by 96 runs to claim the T20 World Cup title for the third time. 

Dhoni’s comment for Gambhir goes viral

Following the Indian cricket team’s emphatic win, Dhoni extended congratulations to the team via an Instagram post. In the caption, he also complimented Gambhir by writing, “Coach Sahab smile looks great on you, intensity with smile is a killer combo.” The former skipper’s remark quickly caught the attention of the netizens.

Gambhir responds on Monday

Gambhir responded to Dhoni’s comment on the social media platform on Monday, opining that the team’s victory in the World Cup was a perfect reason to smile. “And what a reason to smile. Great seeing you,” Gambhir’s comment read. 

T20 WC 2026 final emerges as a star-studded affair

The final of the tournament took place at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi stadium, and turned out to be a star-studded affair. Several cricketing legends such as Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma were in attendance. Before the final clash’s commencement, Sharma and Dhoni walked out to the centre, carrying the T20 World Cup trophy. During this, they were accompanied by ICC Chairman Jay Shah. 

India posted 255/5 in the final clash. Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma raced to half centuries and powered the team to a formidable total. While trying to outnumber the target, the Kiwis were bowled out for 159. Jasprit Bumrah claimed four wickets and was conferred with the ‘Player of the Match’ award. Meanwhile, Samson was named the ‘Player of the tournament.’
