Tamil film industry: The review screening of Tamil actor-cum-politician Vijay’s final film of the acting career, ‘Jana Nayagan,’ has been postponed, sources in the Tamil film industry claimed on Monday. New date yet to be announced

At present, the film is awaiting examination by a revising committee, which will watch it and will land a final decision regarding its certification. According to sources, the new date for the screening review is yet to be announced.

Revising committee to re-examine film

According to the CBFC’s procedure, a board member will preside over the review and will include a separate set of advisory panel members, who shall join the committee for the screening. The committee will reassess the movies before pronouncing a final verdict on its certification. Reports claim that KVN Productions, the film’s production house, received official communication on Sunday regarding the postponement.

Certification row delayed Jana Nayagan’s release

The film was set for theatrical release on January 9 this year, but was postponed as complications linked to its certification cropped up. Earlier, the producers said that a CBFC panel had reviewed the film in December 2025, and recommended certain excisions, which were implemented, as claimed by the makers.

Complaint triggered another review by CBFC

Complexities were added to the film’s release after a member of the original evaluation committee lodged a complaint, alleging that certain scenes depicted in the film could hurt the sentiments of specific religious groups. He also expressed concern over the fact that the makers had not consulted the armed forces before using their logos in the film. On receipt of the complaint, the CBFC chairperson referred the film to a revising committee for a fresh review.

Producers take legal course, withdraw it later

In January 2026, KVN Productions approached the Madras High Court (HC) to challenge the CBFC’s decision to send the film for re-evaluation. However, they later withdrew the petition by submitting a letter to the court registry.

Tamil film industry’s ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay has shared the screen space with Manitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Pooja Hegde and Narain in the upcoming and the final film of his acting journey.
