Ring Metro Delhi: The national capital’s urban transport took a significant leap on Sunday after Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi inaugurated two new corridors of the Delhi Metro, which includes the country’s first fully functional ‘Ring Metro.’ According to officials, the development is being seen as a move to strengthen connectivity across Delhi and neighbouring cities in NCR, as well as ease daily travels for thousands of commuters.

PM Modi inaugurated the Majlis Park–Maujpur Babarpur section of the Pink Line and the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park extension of the Magenta Line, marking a boost in the expansion of Delhi’s rapid transit network.

Pink Line’s completion exalts it as India’s first Ring Metro

Notably, the 12.3-km long Majlis Park-Maujpur Babarpur corridor houses 8 elevated stations and forms part of the already existing Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar Pink Line. With the new stretch added to the corridor, it now boasts of a distance of 71.56 kilometres, emerging as India’s first fully operational ‘Ring Metro.’

The metro stations along the route include Majlis Park, Burari, Jharoda Majra, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Soorghat, Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar and Maujpur-Babarpur. Apart from this, the corridor also features other engineering highlights, like a new bridge over the Yamuna River and a double-decker viaduct, which accommodates both a road flyover and a metro line.

Magenta Line logs a distance of 49 kms with seven new stations

Meanwhile, the second corridor inaugurated by the PM, the 9.9-kilometre Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park extension, is an elevated expansion of the Botanical Garden–Krishna Park Extension Magenta Line. With this addition, the Magenta Line has now logged a total length of nearly 49 kilometres. The stations on this route include Deepali Chowk, Madhuban Chowk, Uttar Pitampura-Prashant Vihar, Haiderpur Village, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Bhalswa and Majlis Park.

PM lays foundation stone for three more metro corridors

On the occasion, PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for three new metro corridors under Phase-V (A) of the Delhi Metro expansion. The three new soon-to-be-built corridors include the Central Vista corridor from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, a Golden Line extension from Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Domestic Airport Terminal-1, and another Golden Line extension from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj. Officials aware of the development expressed hopes about the corridors improving access to major cultural and government landmarks in central Delhi.
