MP CM news: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav on Saturday night condemned the alleged protocol breach which unfolded during President Droupadi Murmu’s visit to West Bengal. The CM has demanded an apology from West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.

Neither Bengal CM nor ministers were present during Prez’s visit

As per reports, President Murmu had arrived in the Bidhan Nagar area of West Bengal’s Siliguri on March 7, 2026, to address a gathering of tribal community groups. However, neither Bengal CM Banerjee nor any minister from the state government was present to attend or receive the President, an act which kicked up a political controversy.

“Presidential office above politics”, says CM Dr Yadav

CM Dr Yadav criticised Bengal CM Banerjee for the alleged protocol breach, saying that the President’s office represents the highest constitutional authority in the country, and deserves respect beyond political differences.

“The conduct of the West Bengal government during President Murmu’s visit to the state is highly condemnable. During the President’s visit, the Chief Minister of a state should ensure that the dignity of the constitutional position is maintained and honoured,” CM Dr Yadav said. 

He further remarked that creating any such circumstances which could undermine the dignity of the President’s office are inappropriate for any state leadership. “It is really unfortunate that such a situation arose where the prestige of the President’s office appeared to be compromised. Dragging a Presidential visit into local political considerations reflects a very unfortunate mindset,” the CM said.

CM Dr Yadav demands apology from Banerjee

While concluding his take on the incident, CM Dr Yadav said that the Bengal CM must issue an apology at the earliest. He noted that the incident represents an ‘embarrassing chapter’ for the West Bengal government.
