Jhansi murder-suicide: Late-night argument takes a gory turn

According to police, the man who took the drastic step has been identified as Prem Singh (38). He had attended a wedding in the locality on the night of the incident. His kin said he returned home under the inebriation of alcohol, which led to a brief argument between them.

His wife Asha said that the family asked him why he had been consuming alcohol. “We asked him why he had been drinking. A fight ensued, and his mother scolded him too,” she added.

Although the dispute appeared to be a petty one at the time, it took a devastating turn hours later. In the middle of the night, Prem picked up his youngest child, Bharat (3) and took him into a separate room. The family, unaware of any imminent danger, went back to sleep.

When Asha woke up hours later, she knocked on the door several times, but received no response.

Kin peep into room from window, discover horrific scene

The family eventually grew anxious and peeped into the room through a window, to discover the harrowing sight. Prem was seen hanging from a noose, while Bharat was lying on the floor in a pool of blood. Asha said, “We raised an alarm upon making the discovery. The child was lying there.” Preliminary suspicions suggest the kid may have been attacked with a sharp-edged weapon, although the police are yet to confirm the exact cause.

Cops break into room

The police officials rushed to the scene upon receiving information and forced open the locked door. They found the father-son duo dead inside the room. A police official said, “Prima facie, it appears he killed his son first and then died by suicide.” He added that the bodies of both the father and the son have been sent for post-mortem, and a probe is underway to piece together the sequence of events.
