Virat Kohli races to two milestones in clash against GT; rewrites IPL record books

IPL 2026 RCB vs GT: Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) star batter Virat Kohli on Friday raced to two milestones while his team engaged in a clash with Gujarat Titans in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The cricketer etched his name deeper into the cricketing folklore with a record-breaking performance at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday.

He emerged as the first player in the history of IPL to smash 800 boundaries, and achieved the feat with his opening four off Kagiso Rabada. He logged another remarkable feat, as he became the first batter to hit 300 sixes for a single franchise, all for RCB. He stands at the top of the list, and is trailed by Shikhar Dhawan (768), David Warner (663) and Rohit Sharma (653).

Titans post 205, ride on Sudharsan’s century

While Kohli grabbed headlines for the aforementioned feats, Sai Sudharsan representing GT delivered a masterclass for the team, as he scored a composed 100 off 58 deliveries to guide his side to a formidable 205/3. He weathered an early storm from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood, who exploited movement and bounce. A streaky boundary helped him settle before he shifted gears, combining precision with controlled aggression.

The left-handed batter dominated the powerplay and steered towards his half-century in just 33 balls. Later, he accelerated with flair, taking on bowlers like Romario Shepherd and Krunal Pandya with innovative strokeplay.

During the innings, Sudharsan also secured an IPL record in his name, becoming the fastest player to reach 2,000 IPL runs. He achieved the milestone in just 47 innings, surpassing the record previously held by Chris Gayle. He reflected on his knock, saying it was as much about regaining rhythm as it was about finishing strongly. He also acknowledged the pitch’s two-paced nature and emphasised the importance of pacing the innings carefully.

“Surface not so true”: Sudharsan

He noted that the surface was not ‘so true,’ making strokeplay a tricky task despite the imposing total. He further said that the score should provide a solid platform for the bowlers.
