Teen cricket prodigy Sooryavanshi shatters long-standing IPL record, surpasses Glenn Maxwell

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi breaks record: Rising cricket star and teen prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who is representing Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, etched his name into the history books on Wednesday, as he became the fastest player to log 500 runs by balls faced in the history of IPL.

The feat fell into the 15-year-old’s kitty during a clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and he reached the landmark in just 222 deliveries. By achieving the feat, he eclipsed the record previously held by Glenn Maxwell, who had taken 260 balls to clinch the milestone.

Despite historic innings, Vaibhav disappoints in match vs LSG

Sooryavanshi reached the record in emphatic fashion, smashing a boundary off Prince Yadav in the second over. However, he failed to shine in the match, as he was dismissed for eight runs off 11 balls by Mohsin Khan. Despite the modest score, the milestone underscores the youngster’s explosive impact in the league this season.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi breaks record: RR begin campaign strongly

In the ongoing IPL 2026 season, RR have begun their campaign strongly, and claimed four consecutive victories. However, they have suffered two back-to-back defeats in their past matches. In contrast, LSG are facing a tougher phase, who are currently on a three-match losing streak.

Notably, LSG are yet to land a victory at home this season, while Rajasthan have struggled in away fixtures.

Captains shed light on team strategies

After winning the toss in the clash, LSG captain Rishabh Pant said significant changes have been made to the Playing XI, as fresh bowling options have been roped in, to introduce stability and resilience amid recent setbacks. He also expressed confidence in key players, including Nicholas Pooran.

Meanwhile, RR skipper Riyan Parag retained the same lineup and emphasised the importance of consistency across both innings. He praised Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s ongoing efforts, noting their positive intent at the top. While Sooryavanshi’s record-breaking milestone has provided a bright moment, both teams are under considerable pressure to rediscover winning momentum.
