Karnataka 9 charred to death: A devastating road accident transpired in Karnataka’s Surpur on Friday, when a car ferrying nine members of the same family collided headlong into a bus and went up in flames, charring all of them to death, the police said. According to reports, the incident occurred near Shantapura Cross in the state’s Surpur Taluk, sending shockwaves across the city.
Names of the victims
The police identified the ones killed in the incident as Krishna Nayak, his wife Anantha Kala, Sharanappa, his wife Nisarga, their children Siddhartha, Advik and Srinidhi, along with Shashikala and her son Chandan.
However, Shashikala’s other son, Virat, had a miraculous escape, as he managed to decamp from the vehicle. He, as per police, has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Pruthvik Shankar said that according to preliminary findings, the Compact Utility Vehicle (CUV) which was gutted in the blaze had suffered a tyre blowout, causing its driver to lose control and result in the vehicle’s collision with the bus.
The blaze engulfed the four-wheeler within moments, leaving little room for the occupants to escape. Four occupants, including two kids, were charred to death at the spot itself. Meanwhile, the remaining victims succumbed to grievous burns after being rushed to the Yadgiri Institute of Medical Sciences.
Emergency teams plunge into action
Eyewitnesses said that the collision was so fierce that both the bus and the car were gutted in the blaze. However, fire and emergency services personnel sprung into action readily and managed to douse the flames, but the damage had already been done. Authorities told the media that as many as 10 people, including five kids, were on board the car at the time of the incident.
Bus passengers escape unhurt
The police said that the victims hailed from Sirwar Taluk in Raichur district and were heading to their hometown from Yadgir. On the other hand, the bus was bound for Kalaburagi from Bengaluru. All 20 passengers aboard the bus were rescued, and no injuries were reported from their end.
