TCS Nashik sexual harassment case: The controversy pertaining to alleged workplace misconduct at the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has escalated, as IT employees’ body, Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) on Monday urged the Ministry of Labour and Employment to conduct a comprehensive audit of compliance of Prevention of Workplace Harassment (POSH) across all TCS offices across the country.
The appeal follows grim allegations levelled by eight female employees at the company’s Nashik facility, who accused senior colleagues of sexual harassment and coercion, including claims of forced religious conversion. The case, after surfacing, has sparked widespread concerns over workplace safety, professionalism and accountability in India’s booming IT sector.

NITES demands time-bound investigation
The NITES wrote to Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, and demanded an ‘immediate and decisive action’, including a detailed and time bound audit of compliance with the POSH Act. The body has specifically sought scrutiny of the constitution, independence and functioning of Internal Committees across TCS Establishments. It has also called for a thorough review of all sexual harassment complaints filed within the company over recent years, irrespective of whether they are pending, resolved, dismissed, or the action taken in each case.
TCS Nashik sexual harassment case: Questions raised over HR Accountability
The body then raised concerns regarding the role of Human Resources (HR) and senior management in handling complaints, stressing the need to scrutinise whether employees were discouraged from reporting incidents or faced retaliation.
It has also proposed a wider, state-level audit of POSH compliance across IT and IT-enabled services firms in Maharashtra, particularly large multinational corporations, to ensure adherence to ethical and legal standards.

Seven persons arrested so far in the case
The developments emerged days after the police constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the allegations at the Nashik office. They arrested seven accused, including a female HR Manager, in connection with the case. Subsequently, TCS reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on harassment and confirmed that employees facing police action have been suspended pending inquiry. The company added that it is completely cooperating with law enforcement agencies and will take further action on the basis of the findings.
The NITES has urged the Ministry to treat the case with utmost urgency, so that potential incidents could be averted in the future too.
