Indian cricketer Rinku Singh’s father passes away after prolonged illness; tributes pour in from fellow teammates

Rinku Singh father death: Indian cricketer Rinku Singh’s father, Khanchand Singh passed away on Friday following an advanced-stage liver cancer. The tragedy befell after India pulverized Zimbabwe in the T20 World Cup Super 8 fixture to stay in the semifinals race. Notably, Rinku opted out of the match and flew home to take care of his ailing father.

Khanchand was undergoing treatment in Greater Noida

Khanchand was admitted to the Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida, where he had been receiving treatment for advanced-stage liver cancer. Hospital spokesperson Dr Sunil Kumar told PTI, “He was placed on ventilator support and breathed his last early Friday morning.”

No sooner did the news of Khanchand’s demise emerge than the cricket stars began paying tributes to the departed soul. Former captain of Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli, Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh were among those who expressed condolences and expressed sympathies towards Rinku.

Notably, Rinku had departed for New Delhi on Tuesday morning, while the Indian cricket team had been sweating it off in the nets to trounce Zimbabwe. Later, India defeated Zimbabwe by 72 runs to keep their semi-final hopes alive in the ongoing tournament.

Khanchand was a gas cylinder delivery man

Khanchand raised Rinku in Aligarh, and was a gas cylinder delivery man. Initially, he was dubious about Rinku’s success in cricket, but underwent a change in his perspective when Rinku claimed the ‘Man of the Series’ award at a School T20 World Cup in Aligarh. Rinku has often attributed his progress and success in the sport to his father.
