World news 2026: As regional instability and diplomatic strain snowball in the Middle East, the United States Embassy in Jerusalem has given the nod to the non-emergency personnel and their kin from Israel to leave, citing potential safety concerns.

Embassy confirms development by releasing statement
The embassy issued a statement on Friday, in which it confirmed that it had approved the departure on February 27, 2026. As per the move, it is up to the discretion of the eligible staff to decide whether to stay in the country or leave.
Commercial flights still operational
The US embassy urged the departure-bound individuals to do the same, as the commercial flights are still operational. The statement read, “Persons may wish to consider leaving Israel while commercial flights are available.”
Travel warning issued for Israel and Palestinian territories
The diplomatic mission cautioned the travellers to reconsider visiting Israel and the West Bank, in light of terrorism and civil unrest. Further in its statements, it warned against all travel to North Israel, Gaza, and areas in close proximity to the Egyptian border.

The embassy expressed inhibitions about imminent attacks by terrorist groups at tourist sites, markets, transport hubs and government facilities. It further warned that if the regional tensions escalate further, the flights may be cancelled.
Tensions between US-Iran heighten regional risks
The development comes at a time when Washington has been beefing up its military presence in the Middle East, while negotiating with Tehran over Iran’s nuclear programme. The talks came to a halt on Thursday with no breakthrough. Iran, on the other hand, has issued threats to target US bases in the region, if attacked.
