Bengaluru techie couple suicide: A disturbing development has emerged on Wednesday in the Bengaluru techie couple suicide case reported two days ago from Karnataka capital. According to the police, their early findings point towards unemployment linked to shifts in the technology sector, coupled with financial woes and social isolation.

Man lost US-based job due to AI
The investigating police personnel said that the man who died by suicide, Banu Chandra Reddy (32) earlier used to work in the United States. Earlier, he lost his job as his company laid off several employees, driven by a transition towards AI-focused roles, leaving him in the lurch. Since then, he had been struggling to land a stable job, and his job hunt spanned over a year. Notably, the prolonged period of unemployment led to severe financial strain, compounding his stress and uncertainty about the future.

Police said Reddy hanged himself inside a room in his house on Monday. Shortly after this, when his wife, Bibi Shaziya Siraj, an IBM employee, walked into the house. When she knocked on the room’s door, she received no response. Later, she called her neighbours and security guards to break the door open. When she found Reddy hanging inside the room, she leaped off from the 17th floor of her residential building, and succumbed to injuries soon after.

Social isolation, family strain theories emerge during probe
The police also pointed to personal challenges faced by the couple. Their interfaith marriage did not go down well with Reddy’s family based in Telangana, leading to strained relations and limited support. With both emotional and financial backing in thin quantities, the couple was navigating their struggles largely on their own in Bengaluru.

As per police, they also recovered a suicide note from the scene, purportedly penned down by Reddy. In the final note, he cited financial hardship and personal pressures as the key reasons behind his extreme step. He also urged not to hold his wife responsible for his suicide. The police said a probe is underway into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including broader factors contributing to mental health stress among professionals in the technology sector.
