What’s the Need of Terafab

However, Musk says the pace at which the semiconductor industry is producing chips isn’t sufficient for Tesla’s needs. Tesla is also making such huge leaps in robotics and AI in a single year that chip consumption is increasing monthly. Now, this chip debate isn’t limited to Musk alone. Tech executives around the world are concerned about chip shortages. In the race for AI, every company wants more computing power, and chips are the foundation for that. However, most companies don’t dare to manufacture chips because it requires billions of dollars, is extremely complex, and not every country has the capability to develop this technology. Now, two types of chips will be manufactured at Terafab. The first is an optimized chip, meaning a chip that can do more work with less power and make real-time decisions. These chips will be used in Tesla’s robotaxis, which will run on the roads without drivers. The second is high-power chips designed for data centers in space. These will be used by SpaceX and XAI. Both types of chips will be built using 2-nanometer technology, one of the most advanced chip technologies in the world today. This means the chips will be smaller, faster, and consume less power.
