The Kiwis were put in to bat first, and posted a total of 175/6 on a surface that grew increasingly difficult as the match advanced. Conway led the innings, producing a 60. Despite a steady start, New Zealand found it hard to accelerate early in the later half due to the pitch’s two-paced nature.

South Africa’s skipper Keshav Maharaj admitted that his side misjudged the pitch conditions, particularly the expected impact of dew. He maintained that New Zealand’s disciplined bowling early on sent his team reeling. Post-victory, New Zealand opener Conway said, “It has been a very quiet couple of months for me, going over to India and not featuring at the World Cup.”

With the series moved to a draw, both sides will look to gain the upper hand in the third T20 International, slated to be held in Auckland on Friday.
